Joining the Zuri Internship Program as a Front-end web developer

It's no longer news that Tech skills are becoming more relevant in today's society. More and more people are joining the Tech community or considering it. Whether as front-end or back-end web developers, mobile app developers, or even UI/UX designers, there's something for everyone. When it comes to gaining a tech skill, the journey is as important as the destination. While some people study tech-related courses in college, several other people -Like myself- are self-taught, which means they gain the skills by availing themselves to any of the numerous free resources available on the internet ranging from youtube videos to websites like w3schools and freecodecamp that offer free courses.

One indispensable resource available to people seeking to join the tech community is internship programs. They introduce a person to real-life projects and show you how to handle them. They also generally prepare you for life in the tech community. Most internship programs also offer much-needed certifications and introduce members to job opportunities.

One of such internship programs is the HGN internship program which I'm currently enrolled in. HGN is an internship program for developers and designers. It aims to provide new and more advanced developers alike with a platform to share ideas and work on projects with a general view to improving their skills and becoming more integrated into the Tech community. I came across the program on Twitter and signed up for the front-end development track. The program consists of 10 stages. Members are expected to complete a task before moving on to the next stage and it's only reasonable to assume that the tasks become more challenging as you climb higher.

My goal for this program is to complete all the stages and reach the final stage. I know it will be very challenging but that's what makes it fun. By the end of the program, I'll love to have gotten acquainted with more experienced web developers and possibly learn as much as I can from them. I would also love to improve my skills as a Front-end Developer and become more integrated into the Tech community.

It is also interesting to note that while the program is aimed at helping beginners find their place in the tech community, it wouldn't exactly hold members' hands by teaching basic concepts. Members are expected to make use of any of the numerous free resources available on the internet. Youtube happens to be one of the best places to learn anything from scratch for free. Here are some free tutorial videos on Youtube I have found useful.
